The number of elderly people who suffer falls is alarming due to organic and environmental factors. The present study analyzed the effects of a physical therapy intervention program on balance and quality of life in the elderly, before and after a program of physical therapy exercises for strengthening, stretching and proprioception. The survey included a sample of 06 elderly people, aged between 59 and 81 years. Data were collected through the application of specific tests and questionnaires such as the “Timed Up and Go” (TUG) test, the Berg Balance Scale and the SF 36 questionnaire regarding quality of life. Subsequently, a physical therapy intervention program was applied, which lasted 10 sessions of 60 minutes each. After the intervention, the individuals were reassessed by the same instruments. The results found showed an improvement in the balance of the participants of 1.66 points, with a value of p<0.0163, as well as an improvement in mobility, speed and balance with p<0.0161. In the scores for the domains of quality of life, significant improvement was obtained in functional capacity p<0.0341, general health status p<0.0422, vitality p<0.0429 and social aspects p<0.009. Considering the results obtained, it can be concluded that the application of a physical therapy intervention program in an elderly group has positive effects on their balance and quality of life.pt-BRFisioterapiaIdososEquilíbrioQualidade de vidaEfeitos de um programa de intervenção fisioterapêutica no equilíbrio e qualidade de vida em um grupo de idosos de um bairro da cidade de ErechimTrabalho de Conclusão de Curso
