Article 1,639 of the Civil Code authorizes the bride and groom to decide on their assets. It is discussed how this device allows couples to choose between the four legal regimes or create personalized regimes. The choice of property regime affects the division of assets upon separation or death. The growing interest in mixed regimes highlights the importance of studying their legal implications. The research analyzes the financial consequences of separation due to divorce or death of a spouse.To develop this work, bibliographical, legislative and documentary research was used, including internet articles, indirect and direct research techniques and other means.As for the approach method, this study used the deductiv method, specifically addressing each point to understand the subject, that is, in qualitative research we seek to interpret and describe more in-depth aspects, apprehending the complexity of human behavior, providing a more detailed analysis of the subject.As part of the descriptive and exploratory research, it will be through two technical procedures: bibliographic research and documentary research. The present research has as its procedural method the collection of data and information consistent with the study of certain groups, communities, individuals, conditions, professions and institutions, with the purpose of obtaining generalizations. Thus, to achieve the objective of the research, the analysis of a topic in which investigations are justified is addressed. The bibliographic sources will be composed of theses and dissertations, scientific articles, books, referring to the research topic, which makes the literature on the studied topic public, bringing together knowledge in works of different natures.
