The incentive for this study was the visit to a food producing company that uses pumps to transfer products. To improve the process, a process automation prototype has been designed and implemented so that the system becomes safer for operation, generating greater production efficiency and reducing maintenance interventions. The implementation of the results of this study will provide improvements to industrial processes resulting in quality, standardization, safety, effectiveness and speed. To highlight the importance, a literature review was carried out presenting the concept of industrial automation and how it is currently inserted in the industry, the concept and use of the programmable logic controller (PLC), applications with pumps and electrical components used in automation. The entire methodology was formatted with reference to a safer system, for this purpose sensors and actuators were inserted, in this way it was possible to have barriers that guarantee the full functioning of the equipment. For programming, ladder was chosen, as it is now widespread in the industrial environment. With the conclusion, the efficiency of the system was highlighted, with the protection system it is possible to confidently guarantee the functioning of the pre-defined system.pt-BREngenharia ElétricaAutomação de bombasControlador lógico programávelAutomação de sistema de bombas para melhoria de processo em indústria alimentíciaTrabalho de Conclusão de Curso
