Abstract

Abstract

This work presents a method for triggering and controlling the power flow of a permanent magnet machine with regenerative braking in a Brushless DC motor. To contextualize the proposed theme, a literature review was conducted on DC-DC converters and the operation and characteristics of the electric machine used, as well as its drive principle and different methods of applying regenerative braking. After the investigation, it was decided to adopt the Bidirectional Buck/Boost converter, the six-step drive method using Hall effect sensors, and the electrical braking methods of single-switch, two-switch, three-switch, and plugging. To conduct the work, computational validation was carried out using the PSIM® software, evaluating both the chosen converter and the electrical braking methods. In addition, experimental tests were conducted on a bench to verify the basic operation of the BLDCM, with a 350W motor being driven by a low-cost microcontroller, ESP32, and an inverter FSBB30CH60C. From the computational results, it was found that the DC-DC converter operates correctly to supply and receive energy from the system regardless of the braking method used, and for each braking method, the braking torque varies, as well as the regenerated energy. Finally, the experimental results showed that the ESP32 can be fully adopted in the drive of the Brushless DC motor.
