Abstract/Resumen
The aging process throughout the world has led to significant demographic change. This population segment is more susceptible to declining health status, with falls being characterized as one of the most common and serious public health problems today. Muscular weakness, balance deficit and gait instability are common intrinsic risks for falls, but they can be modified through adherence to regular and planned physical exercise. The present research project aims to analyze the effect of gymnastics training and bodybuilding in the prevention of falls in elderly women in the city of Gaurama / RS. The sample of this study will be composed by a database of a project promoted by the city hall of the city of Gaurama / RS, with a multiprofessional team composed by physical educator (gymnastics and bodybuilding activities), nurse, doctor, physiotherapist, nutritionist, social worker, and psychologist. Fourteen elderly women were studied in a physical training program (gymnastics and bodybuilding) lasting twelve months (three times weekly, with sessions of one and a half hours), assessing the body balance and propensities for their falls. The sample has mean and standard deviation values for the age variables that were 66.07 ± 4.04 years, height of 1.64 ± 0.030 meters and for body mass (MC) of 72.30 ± 9.60 Kg. Using two tests as measured protocols, the "POMA", which presented mean values of 27.61 ± 3.12 points at the beginning of the study, and 29.4 ± 3.24 points at the end of the twelve months, with significance level of p = 0.0174, and the other test, the TEC where 4.00 ± 0.92 was obtained at the beginning of the training and 5.07 ± 1.17 after training, with p = 0.0067. Showing a significant difference for the equilibrium variable. Concluding this study, there is a significant improvement in the balance of elderly volunteers through physical exercise, emphasizing the importance of regular physical exercise stay and practice by the elderly population, helping them in their autonomy and better quality of life.
