Abstract/Resumen
Introduction: The Long Term Care Institution for the Elderly (ILPI) is a home possibility that offers full care to people aged 60 and over. Nursing acts uninterrupted in these spaces, having frequent contact with the finitude of the elderly. Objective: To know the perception of nursing technicians regarding the process of death and dying in LSIE. Materials and Methods: A descriptive study of qualitative approach developed with 08 nursing technicians working in an ILPI in the north of Rio Grande do Sul. After approval by the Research Ethics Committee (CEP), data collection began in August and September 2019.The analysis technique used for data processing was thematic analysis. Results and Discussion: In this research, the following categories emerged: Performance of nursing technicians in IPLI; Experiencing the process of dying and dying in LSIE and; Nursing difficulties and facilities facing the process of dying and death in LSIE. Final considerations: It is believed that this study may broaden the knowledge, discussions and reflections on the subject, as well as promote subsidies for nursing care and better coping with the finitude in LSIE.
