Prostate cancer affects mainly men over 65 years. Risk factors include age, family history of prostate cancer, and ethnicity. There are still divergences for early detection and traceability, thus making relevant the expansion of knowledge. Objective: to analyze the scientific contribution about the prevention and early detection of prostate cancer in the Brazilian context in the last ten years in the database of the Virtual Health Library (VHL). Materials and methods: This is an integrative review of the literature, with qualitative approach, based on Ganong. Results and discussion: Controversies are observed regarding the early detection and screening for prostate cancer. Thus, education about the disease and risk factors is an alternative that contributes positively to its primary prevention. Considerations: There is a need to broaden discussions on the subject, as there is still a shortage of studies. The nurse professional has a primary role in the attention to the health of the man through preventive measures, such as the guidelines and the clarification of doubts. For this, the reception and listening are essential so that care can be directed in its entirety.
